Course Record Smashed on Yarra River

Australand Moomba Masters Water Ski Tournament

Dynamic Australian brother / sister duo Emma Sheers and Curtis Sheers set new course records in the first round of the Australand Moomba Masters on the Yarra River in Melbourne.

Former World Champion Emma Sheers, smashed her own course record of 51.9 metres with a 53.7 metre leap in the first round of the Women’s Jump Event. Denmark’s June Fladborg is in second place with a 51.7 metre jump.

Whilst in the Men’s Jump, brother Curtis Sheers flew 66.8 metres to equal the 5-year old course record held by former World Champion Bruce Neville. Jesper Cassoe (DEN) was only 20 centimetres behind the pace and the record with a 66.6 metre jump. In a first for the Australand Moomba Masters, 11 Men’s competitors jumped over 60 metres, the mark likened to the 10-second 100 metre sprint.

In a huge upset in the slalom event, defending Australand Moomba Masters Champion Andy Mapple (GBR) failed to advance to the Quarter Finals. This uncharacteristic performance from Andy has opened the way for standings leader Chris Parrish (USA) to make his mark on the 2003 event.

Winning the "daily double" Emma Sheers is also winning the Women’s Slalom event, ahead of standings leader Karen Truelove (USA) and 2000 Moomba Masters Slalom Champion Geraldine Jamin (FRA)
